Meet JODY!!

A new bag pattern has just been released, ladies!.  She's called JODY,  with a shoulder strap, which can easily be increased  to make a cross body bag. It is neither too big nor too small at 10"w x 8" high.  It has a inside slip pocket with card slots, and 1 zipper pocket.  The fabric you use is totally up to you...leather, vinyl, cotton???

Included in the pattern are very clear and detailed instructions with lots of diagrams.  It also includes cutting labels for everything with dimensions on it, and drafted pattern pieces.

A link to a video has been provided as well, where you can follow the designer, Anne, in creating the inside zip pocket!  Now, you can't simplify things much more than that!!

The skills level has been rated for a beginner, and the skill needed is topstitching! (which is not difficult),

The designer of  the Jody Bag  is Anne Verberckmoes of  Serial Bagmakers. The pattern can be found on CRAFTSY, for  a very affordable price!

If you are wanting to see the bag up close, just click on the picture.  That should enlarge it!

Thank you, ladies!  Hope you will check out this pattern!  I found it one of the best I have ever seen.  The layout and information is right before confusion as to what page....very easy to follow and understand.

This bag is made by my friend, Carol Meagher.  The bag is made of orange cork leather, and cotton print.  I absolutely love the color combination, so I wanted you to have  a see.  This is her first, but not her last bag to be made in cork.  She's already started the 2nd one!!

I'm just going to add a bit of info on cork, as possibly someone hasn't heard of it before.  It's very popular right now in the sewing groups!

This bag is called the Bonnie Bucket Bag and can been found at SWOON SEWING PATTERNS!

The cork is a natural sustainable, Peta certified, Eco friendly product imported from Portugal.

  • The cork tree bark is peeled every 9 years, and can be re-harvested up to 300 years!  Some cork forests are 2000 years old.
  • Cork leather is strong.
  • It is not only water resistant, but has natural anti-mildew/antibacterial properties and can be washed clean.
This video is excellent, and will explain how the cork fabric/leather is made.

Sew Together Bags - Makeup

Another sew together bag is now finished!  I actually made two of them,  The one has a rectangular center label and the other has rounded corners.  Other than that they are exactly the same inside and outside.

The sew together bag has three zippered pockets in the inside and four open spaces which could accommodate a brush, make up brushes, hair clips, etc.

I added a chain of charms, plus  a "homemade" tag to each outside zipper pull.

The matching little pouches were added as a gift.  They could be used for earrings, appointment cards, what have you!

I was asked to make these for two young girls, so I am hoping this is young enough for them, and that they like them!

A New Bag !

Peacock feathers you say?  This is a new bag I made from the Rose Bag Tutorial which you can find on Craftsy!  It's a versatile bag tutorial!

The changes  made are:

-  A removable/adjustable shoulder strap was added.

 - Two strips of 1" fabric were added to the sides of the bag from the top wide section of the bag to the bottom.  Another piece of fabric was made into a loop..

.- Instead of making a long flap, I shortened it to serve as more of a decorative element, using it just on the front.  The hardware is from Emmaline Bags.

- A recessed zipper was added.

- The bag bottom is now 4" wide instead of 2".

- In the inside I added one large deep pocket and divided it into two.  The large zipper pocket is on the inside back.

- I used a heavy interfacing over the quilt batting.

Finally I made a tassel out of a small scrap piece of black leather.  The bell cap I purchased from a China supplier a couple of years ago.

All in all, I'm happy with it.  There's nothing that was too difficult to do, and I'm sure there's many other ideas you could come up with!

The Rose Fabric Tutorial/Pattern does not have these changes included in the tutorial.

This bag was made for my cousin, Karen!  She chose the fabric, and I went from there! Hope you like it!   I hope Karen likes it as well...she's  suppose to receive it today!!  Oh yes!!  So excited! Thank you for visiting!

Rose Fabric Bag Tutorial - Versatile

The bag tutorial can be found on  CRAFTSY!  (These new changes have not been added to the pattern).

I just finished making a new bag using this pattern, with a few changes...the arrows indicate what has been added or changed.

I'm just showing this as an example of what can be done if you wish..  It is quite a versatile tutorial.

Changes & Additions

- 1 removable shoulder strap was added.

-  two strips of 1" fabric were added to the sides of the bag from the top wide section of the bag to the bottom.  Another piece of fabric was made into a loop to hold the hardware on the side.

- instead of making a long flap, I shortened it to serve as more of a decorative element, using it just on the front.  I used hardware from Emmaline Bags.

-  a recessed zipper was added.  I looked at many tutorials, which helped somewhat, then figured out how to do it differently, or I think it's different.

- in the inside I added one large deep pocket and divided it into two.  This is on the inside front side, while the zipper pocket is on the inside back.

- I also used a heavy interfacing over the quilt batting.

All in all I'm quite happy with it.  Hope you like it!

Thank you Maria for offering this free tutorial!!

Charlotte City Tote Bag

This is another Charlotte City Tote I just completed.  I somehow ended up with a smaller bag, but I really like the size!

The interior of this bag is large, and it hosts a large inner open pocket, which I divided in half, as well as a zipper pocket.

I also made a tassel following a video on You Tube.  I did not have the hook to add to it, so improvised using a D ring.  It worked well.  I made a string out of the vinyl to tie it to the bag.

A rivet was added to the top of the tassel for added security.  I used glue to roll the tassel.  I would have made the hanging tassels a bit thinner, but the vinyl was soft, so I did not want to weaken them.  They look just fine anyway!

The Charlotte City Tote is from the collection of Swoon Patterns.  You can find it HERE!   These are great patterns, and all reasonably priced.  If you are a member of  SWOON PATTERN GROUP on Facebook, you get  a discount, making the pattern a steal of a deal!

The tassel tutorial can be found on You Tube right HERE!  It is by Pile O Fabric, part of the Blanche Barrel Bag Tutorial.  The tutorial is clear and so easy to follow!

The Charlotte City Tote by Swoon

I've just about finished this Charlotte City Tote by Swoon.  It's quite roomy in the inside, and I think it would be suitable for someone who carries  a lot of "stuff".  I love the design, and the vinyl adds a bit of pizzazz to the whole look.

The vinyl is from Lee Ann's Home Decor on Facebook.  She has a vast array of different fabrics as well as vinyls.  Her shipping charges are exceptionally reasonable, and to top it all off, she's one nice lady!!  She can be found HERE!

The fabric is Ex Libris by Alison Glass!  I love absolutely all of her fabric!  I purchased this fabric at Quincy's Quilting in Edmonton.  They have an excellent selection of fabric, and FREE SHIPPING!

Back to the vinyl!  The vinyl was quite easy to sew, and despite the popular belief that you need to use a leather needle, I  used a regular one.  I ended up with a couple of missed stitches a long the way, but it wasn't the vinyl, but my sewing machine not liking the bulk at some points....especially where the piping joins at the top.  I most likely should have removed the piping  a 1/2" from the top on all four corners.

I've never made my own vinyl piping before, and next time I would ensure the cording is firm.  This was on the softer side, and it was really difficult to define when sewing.  All in all, for the battle that endured at some points, it looks just fine to me!

Swoon sewing patterns are excellent, reasonably priced, and they have a few free ones.  The latest free one is The Dollie.  It's 6" x 6", and is ideal for  child or adult!  Patterns can be found HERE!

Enjoy your day!

I've just completed two custom orders for the Sew Together Bag (3 zip pockets).  This will be it for now.  I'm going to be making some other bags (Swoon), as well as making a few using the tutorials I am selling on Craftsy.

My Carry-It-All Hipster Bag would look beautiful in the cork fabric that is so popular now.  I'm not sure of the color yet, but maybe pink or purple.

Anyway, for now here's the Sew Together Bags!  The fabric the customer chose is just beautiful!

Simple Gifting/ Packaging Idea

Here's a simple packaging idea, using blue metallic  colored tape, ribbon, paper bag, and a home printed card.  It's very simple, and not costly at all.

Buttons, jewels, ribbons, what ever you like as embellishments could be easily added.  I personally prefer simple.  Alright, a bit of bling would be fine too.  Each to his or her own preference!

If you have any ideas for packaging or gifting that you would like to share, please  leave a note in the comment section below.  .  I'd love to hear how you would package your items for sale.  I'm wondering about the Necessary Clutch Wallet, and how I would wrap and ship it.  Any suggestions?

I think the above sew together bag could easily be packaged as above, and then wrapped in brown or white wrapping paper for shipping.

Here's a lovely bag pattern and it's free.  You can find it at My Handmade Space!  There are several other bag and dress tutorials you might like as well.

This is a simple bag with a front snap hook closure.  The pattern is designed for faux leather, and there is also a free embroidery design.  It would be very easy to add a shoulder strap and/or extra bag hardware.

This looks like an easy sew for even the novice!

Duffle Bag - Free Tutorial.

Here's a trendy duffle bag which would be great for a short trip or weekend getaway.

It finishes at approximately 20" wide x 11" high x 7" deep.  The handles have a 12" drop.  The wrap-around zipper opens a full 27".  It takes only 1 1/2 yards of fabric, which in itself is amazing considering the size, and that it is fully lined!

The straps are just long enough to be used as a hand or over the shoulder carry all, whichever you prefer.

RETREAT BAG - Free Tutorial

I absolutely love these Retreat Bags, and plan on making one!...maybe more!.   They come in two sizes, small and large.  Even the small one is large enough to contain all your cosmetic needs plus!

The top contains a wire frame, which I've never worked with, but I was assured they were not difficult to insert.

You can find this Retreat Bag at Emmaline Bags.

Pattern instructions are provided in both imperial and metric measurements.  It is geared towards a beginner to intermediate sewer.

This is the bag I just finished.  I used vinyl and cotton, and added a "Homemade" metal label to the front.

The vinyl was quite thin so I had no problem sewing it.    Pressing the bag was initially a challenge as I couldn't put the iron near the vinyl.  I used a pressing cloth which worked well once I had figured it out.

The internal wire frames in the top, which keep the bag open are easy to install.  This is my first time using them.

The only thing I would do differently is add some  quilt batting or bosal  to the bag.  I did use a heavy interfacing, but I think the other would work better.  All in all, I'm happy with how it turned out.

Here's just a few NCW's I've made over the last few months.

The NCW has various flap templates. As well you can choose one or two inside zipper pockets, and/or a back outer zipper or open pocket.

You can add to or take away from the wallet, and still end up with something  plain or classy.  It's up to you.  Fabric plays a big role in determining that.

I can't say I found this wallet easy to make.  It took several , before I was really able to master the pattern.    Since I have trouble following written instructions, Jean, the Jelly Roll Queen's You Tube videos were invaluable, as was the input from the women on the NCW Facebook page.

Seems to be that many support groups and videos  are popping up  every where for the bags and wallet patterns/tutorials that have and are coming out.  I personally love the concept!

You can find this Necessary Clutch Wallet pattern/tutorial at Emmaline Bags.

Thank you for visiting!
